Suriname is a developing country with a small and young population, with little over 550, 000 inhabitants in total, about 25,000 of whom are young girls between the ages of 10 to 14. Poverty is rising because Suriname has been in a financial crisis since 2015 and the unemployment rate is over 30% for young women between the age of 16 to 24. 

Something needs to be done to empower our girls, especially those living in underprivileged circumstances. They deserve a better perspective on life and need to realize that they can make a difference. For themselves, their families, their neighborhood, and even our country.

By implementing STEM Access For Girls with girls in Suriname we will help them formulate their thinking about their career path. It is important to help them gain a future perspective for themselves at a young age, so they can make wise choices about their educational path to enable them to follow their dreams.
