Not in a million years would she have ever imagined “Miracile “-a nickname given by her mother to mean miracle; the little giggly girl from Mirebalais, Haiti would work as a Software Engineer, develop a mobile application, or start a non-profit organization. Claudia Gourdet founded STEM Access for Girls in 2016 as her commitment to action for the Clinton Global Initiative University. She founded STEM Access to empower young girls through STEM education and provide them with the same opportunities that were given to her.
Growing up in Haiti she was never exposed to STEM disciplines. She moved to the United States at the age of nine. Throughout her academic journey, she participated in various programs that helped her build leadership skills and become passionate about math, science, and technology. She learned through STEM Education she can gain 21st-century skills to be successful personally and professionally. She decided to become a STEM professional and studied Computer Information Systems in college and later started STEM Access For Girls as an undergraduate student.
Her goal for the organization is to utilize the STEM Access For Girls platform to provide early and frequent access to STEM experiences and career opportunities which in turn could help to build economic independence, a diverse STEM workforce and global leaders.
Through collaboration with like-minded individuals who are interested in investing, she hopes to grow STEM Access For Girls to serve thousands of youths but she cannot do it alone so are constantly working to grow our teams, partners and identify ways we can make a bigger impact and give tomorrow leaders the opportunity to write their narrative.
